Berney, 84, a resident of the Wolbach community for many years, died Sunday evening in the St. Paul hospital from injuries received when he fell early Saturday evening. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Wolbach with the Rev. Harvey Clark of Grand Island officiating. Grossart Jr. and Leon Berney. The Lutheran Choir sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "My Faith Looks Up to Thee," accompanied by the organist, Mrs. Clarence Thayer. Mr. Berney was born July 28, 1878 at Columbus, Nebraska to Joseph and Ersula Berney. He departed this life on November 4, 1962 at St Paul, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 3 months and seven days. The family moved to Greeley County when he was two years of age. He and Emma Imus were married June 3, 1903 in Nance County and made their home on a farm near Wolbach, Nebraska. Mrs. Berney died in October, 1944. Mr. Berney retired from farming and moved to Wolbach in 1951. He leaves to mourn his passing eight sons, Erroll, Frank, Austin,Laurence and William, all of Wolbach, Ivan of Norfolk, VA., Lowell of Galt, Mo. and Carroll of Higginsville, Mo; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Grossart and Mrs. Emma Grossart, both of Wolbach; a brother, Pete Berney of Wolbach; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. His wife, two sons, two sisters and three brothers, preceded him in death.
