Description	:	John August Carlson was born in Sweden on the 22nd day of February, 1860 and passed out of this life at the St. James hospital, St. James, Minnesota on the 12th day of May, 1931, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 20 days. Read More	John August Carlson was born in Sweden on the 22nd day of February, 1860 and passed out of this life at the St. James hospital, St. James, Minnesota on the 12th day of May, 1931, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 20 days. He spent the first ten years of his life in his native country. His mother departed from this world when he was yet small and in the year 1870 he, with his father and sisters, emigrated to the United States, settling first in Chicago, staying there and other Illinois points until the early 1880's when he came to Stratford, Iowa. On January 14, 1886, he was united in marriage to Mary Lucinda Sallee and lived at Stratford until 1912, when they moved to Butterfield, Minnesota, where he lived until taken to the hospital at St. James on May 17, 1928. To their union four children were born; one daughter, Enola, who preceded him in death at the age of one year in 1895. He leaves to mourn his departure, one daughter, Mrs. Walter Johnson (Lillian) of Butterfield, MN; two sons, Francis of Boone, Iowa and Seldon of St. James, MN. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. C. P. Anderson of Stratford, Iowa, and a host of friends and relatives. Mr. Carlson was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 16, 1879 at the First Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church at Galesburg, Illinois and always tried to live an upright life and was always ready to help his friends and fellowmen and the betterment of the community where he lived. The funeral of J. August Carlson was held at the Presbyterian church in Butterfield on last Thursday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. L. Smythe in charge. The funeral was largely attended by former friends and associates of the deceased. The remains were taken to Stratford, Iowa, for burial. The pallbearers were M. Dobbe, A. Bodine, E. A. Olson, L. B. Erickson, J. Brogger and Christ Hanson.
