Wendland, who, following a protracted illness, passed on at a Havre hospital on Saturday night of February 23rd. Rev. Milo E. Lee, pastor of the Hingham Lutheran church officiated, and burial was at the Hingham Union Cemetery at the side of his wife who preceded him in death on March 20, 1944. The pallbearers, selected from old acquaintances of the deceased, were Charles Wallner, Charles Struck, Henry Langel, Louis Aevermann, Theodore Peterson, and Frank Hybner. The selected hymns for the services with Mrs. Edward Brandt accompanist were "Beyond the Sunset" by Mr. and Mrs. Herb Aspevig, "God Understands" by Joe Simon, and "Abide with Me" by Mrs. and Mrs. Herb Aspevig and Joe Simon. The hall was crowded by the many hi-line friends who came to pay their final respects for the departed who was highly respected as a friend and neighbor, which sentiments were reflected by the many floral tributes. The deceased was born at Brompton, Minnesota, on October 23, 1867. He was married at Glenco, Minnesota, where he resided 12 years before coming to Montana on March 12, 1914, at which time he acquired land one-half mile north of Rudyard. He sustained the passing of a son at Rudyard in 1935 and the death of his beloved wife on March 20, 1944. The deceased is survived by a son Andrew of Rudyard, two brothers, Fred of Staples, Minnesota, and Edward of Brompton, Minnesota, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Since his retirement from active work about 15 years ago, the deceased was at home in Rudyard where he fully enjoyed the fellowship of a wide acquaintanceship who appreciated his well-earned retirement as a successful tiller of the soil and gave ear to his words of wisdom and council.
