Memorial services were held at St. Anthony's Church here on Friday morning. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. A. C. Helmbrecht celebrated the Requiem High Mass at 8:30 a.m. John B. Schaefer was born on May 6, 1878 at Taopi, Minnesota, the son of Nicholas and Margaret Schaefer. The family lived in Minnesota until 1886, when they moved to South Dakota and settled in this community. Mr. Schaefer grew to young manhood here, and was educated in the Hoven public schools. He was employed at the lumberyard here, worked as janitor in St. Anthony's Parish for a few years, and did various other types of work during his lifetime. For the past several years, Mr. Schaefer was City Marshal in Hoven. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hoven. His Untimely death came at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 1953, after he had attained the age of 75 years, 6 months and 8 days. His parents, a brother and a sister, preceded him in death. His father passed away on April 9, 1922, his mother on January 8, 1940, brother Math on June 10, 1922, and sister Mrs. Mary Jax on April 27, 1934.
