Tipton Advertiser newspaper clipping, found in an old scrapbook - BAKER- Mr. John Baker died at his home in Rochester township, Cedar county, Ia., Jan. 9, 1892, of pneumonia, aged 69 years, 5 months, and 22 days. Deceased was born in Piqua (Pickaway) county, Ohio, Sept. 14, 1822; removed from there to Indiana and remained there for a time. From there, in the fall of 1836, he came with his parents to this county and has been a resident of Rochester township ever since. He was joined in matrimony to Miss Sarah Howe Feb. 16th, 1847, and besides his faithful wife, leaves four sons and four daughters to mourn the irreparable loss of one of the kindest of husbands and fathers. Deceased was one of the earliest settlers of the county, and at the last annual meeting of the Old Settlers' association was elected president of the ensuing year. Words are inadequate to pronounce a just tribute to one whose efforts were largely devoted to making his home beautiful and all around him cheerful and happy. Funeral services were conducted by Brother Frybarger, of Moscow, and the interment made at the Rochester cemetery. -------------------------
