Description	:	John Bernard Riel Bernard was born July 7, 1906, in Geneva township. He spent his youth mostly at home. He received a Lutheran Christian training at Grafton. He was always healthy with the exception of having scarlet fever as a child. After working for his uncle on the farm a few weeks, he came home on Sunday, August 23, with a severe headache. He showed signs of grip. His headache continued. A gathering on his forehead was lanced twice. His health failed to improve, and finally his was taken to a sanitarium... Read More	John Bernard Riel Bernard was born July 7, 1906, in Geneva township. He spent his youth mostly at home. He received a Lutheran Christian training at Grafton. He was always healthy with the exception of having scarlet fever as a child. After working for his uncle on the farm a few weeks, he came home on Sunday, August 23, with a severe headache. He showed signs of grip. His headache continued. A gathering on his forehead was lanced twice. His health failed to improve, and finally his was taken to a sanitarium at Lincoln. An x-ray examination showed an injury on top of the head. An operation was performed at the sanitarium October 16th. Saturday evening a relapse set in and he died at midnight Saturday night. He leaves to mourn his early departure, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Riel; one brother, Arthur and two sisters, Doris and Helen; all younger; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Tobiassen of Geneva; his other grandfather, John Riel of Germany; a number of other relatives and friends. The funeral was conducted from the home at 1 p.m., Monday, October 19th, and at the Methodist Church in Geneva later in the afternoon, through the courtesy of the Methodist congregation. The sermon was delivered by Rev. W. F. Wietzke of Shickley. Rev. H. Kuchkahn assisted in the service. Both are Evangelical Lutheran pastors. The body was laid to rest in the Geneva Cemetery.
