Bigham, one of the old settlers of Lucas county, died at his home 4 1/2 miles north of Chariton, on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, of cancerous trouble. Mr. Bigham was born in County Down, Ireland, Dec. 24, 1819. At the age of four years he crossed the water with his parents, and settled in Baltimore, Md., where they lived for twelve years, and where his father died. Thence he moved to Ohio, where he lived until 1853, from whence he moved to Iowa, where he has since lived, and for the last 37 years has lived in Lucas county until his death November 29, 1903, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 5 days. He was first married to Jane Morrow, to whom was born one son, James, who died in Oregon in 1895, an one daughter, Mrs. Sarah Hamilton. His first wife having died he was again married to Mary Ann Morrow in 1852. To this union were born four children, one boy and three girls. John, who now lives in Oregon, Mrs. Ann Kneeland, of Shelby Co., Ia. and Mary and Nancy, both at home. Besides these, he reared and cared for a nephew, Wm. Bigham, who was to him the same as a son. So he leaves in all, of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, thirty in all. He lived a quiet life, took an interest in national affairs and never missed voting at a general election since he was 21, until this fall when he was not able to get to the polls. He was a kind husband, a good father, and a peaceable and honest citizen. After a funeral service at the home on last Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. G. W. Kitchen, of Chariton, his remains were interred in the Brownlee cemetery.
