Description	:	John Crabtree, Sr. was the sixth child of eight children born to William H Crabtree I and his wife Jane Ann Pendleton Hostead. His parents had sailed into the port of Baltimore in America in 1705 with one son shortly after they married on 3 May 1703 in Broughton, Yorkshire County, England. There may have been more than five children. The known children of John Crabtree, Sr. and his wife Margaret W. Beness are: 1. Mary Ruth Crabtree, b. 1745 MD; d. 1801 NC 2. Jane "Janey" Crabtree, b. 1747 MD; d. 1824 KY 3. John Crabtree, Jr., b. 1748 MD; d. 1798 NC 4. James Crabtree I, b. 1750 MD; d. 1829 KY 5. William Crabtree, b. 1758; d. 1836 NC It is believed that after his mother age 32 died 17 March 1759 in Kingsville, Baltimore County, Maryland John Crabtree, Sr. with his young children migrated into colonial Orange (now Randolph) County, North Carolina about 1760. Several other Crabtree family members most likely in a wagon train migrated into colonial Orange (now Alamance) County, North Carolina in this time frame. Perhaps John Crabtree, Sr lived as a widower in the Sandy Creek Settlement raising his five young children. It is reasoned he may have lived out his life on a farm near to his son John Crabtree, Jr. who married a local girl in 1770. It is very likely he attended the Sandy Creek Baptist Church where it is believed he is buried in the old section. Two of the adult children Jane "Janey" Crabtree and James Crabtree I migrated into Christian County, Kentucky in about 1820.
