Description	:	John Cubbison was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, June 9, 1844, and died at his home in Fairmont, Nebraska on August 31, 1933, after an illness of four weeks. He was the last of a family of seven children, a sister having died at the age of ninety-five in January of this year. His childhood and early manhood were spent on a farm near Mt. Read More	John Cubbison was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, June 9, 1844, and died at his home in Fairmont, Nebraska on August 31, 1933, after an illness of four weeks. He was the last of a family of seven children, a sister having died at the age of ninety-five in January of this year. His childhood and early manhood were spent on a farm near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where he engaged in farming and stock raising. In the fall of 1879, he came to Fairmont and engaged in the general merchandise business, with B.F. Nixon as a partner. After the fire of 1888, which destroyed this business, he went to St. Francis, Kansas and Denver, but returned three years later and re-established his business in the Cubbison block. He was identified with the early improvement of the town, giving his best efforts for the good of the town through the pioneer days. On March 1, 1873, he was married to Miss Sophia Nixon, who, with a son and daughter, devoted herself to caring for him during his last illness. Although members of the family have realized his failing health for many months, he said to his physician, "I am not sick, they are just excited." Funeral services were conducted at the home on Saturday morning, in the presence of the family and a few very close friends. Rev. J. Henry Stitt of Fairmont and Rev. V.C. Wright of Lyons had charge of the service at the house, and at the Fairmont cemetery. The pallbearers were the younger men who visited with Mr. Cubbison in his place of business: Willard Goodrich, Harry Mills, Edson Hall, Elmer Hadsell, W.R. Dorrance and T.W. Drummond.
