Pleasant, Iowa, on March 21, 1851, and died at her home in Fairmont on October 10, 1948. Her childhood was spent o her parent's farm. She attended the country school and later Howe's Academy in Mt. Read More	Sophia Nixon, daughter of William Foster and Nancy Davis Nixon, was born at their farm home near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, on March 21, 1851, and died at her home in Fairmont on October 10, 1948. Her childhood was spent o her parent's farm. She attended the country school and later Howe's Academy in Mt. Pleasant. She taught several terms in a neighboring school, sometimes having pupils older than herself. One of the pleasures of recent visits to Mt. Pleasant was driving out to the old red brick schoolhouse (still in use) where she taught over 75 years ago. She was married to John Cubbison on February 21, 1871, and they made their home on a farm near her former home, where the daughter and son were born. Mr. Cubbison came to Fairmont in the fall of 1879, and the family followed in the spring of 1880. This has been their home ever since, with the exception of two years spent in St. Francis Kansas. After Mr. Cubbison's death in 1933, their business was discontinued; and she greatly enjoyed the winters they spent in California. Mrs. Cubbison was a member of many years standing in the Methodist church, serving on the official board, and as a Sunday school teacher. Of her Sunday school class of young ladies, which included Eloise Jackson Adams, Nellie M. Curtis, Ella Bennett Waring, only one--Miss Vira Hadsell of Fairmont is now living. Of late years her failing hearing has kept her from attending church services, but she continued to attend Sunday school whenever she was able. She was a charter member of Chapter A.M P.E.O. This was of special interest to her, as she attended school in Mt. Pleasant at the time of the organization of the sisterhood in 1869, and knew many of the first members. Her memory did not fail her. She spoke of incidents of the Civil War, when the family lived for a time in Keokuk, Iowa, where her father was steward in a government hospital and her mother helped in the sewing room. She told of the fine riding done by the members of the cavalry when they returned from the war. Surviving are her son and daughter; two brothers, B.F. and E.D. Nixon of St. Francis, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. S.B. Miller of Durango, Colo., who visited here only a few weeks ago; also a cousin, Mrs. F.B. Reed of Hastings, who has always been very near to the family. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, October 12, at the Kritner Funeral Home, Rev. R.L. Embree of Friend, and Rev. L.A. Fishell officiating. Mrs. Charles H. Little and Mrs. W.R. Dorrance sang a duet and Oliver Moul sang a solo, with Miss Ruth Hurst, organist. Interment was in the family plot in the Fairmont cemetery, with E.A. Hall, W.E. Goodrich, H.E. Goodrich, W.R. Dorrance, Harry Bergstrand and Boyd Garrett as pallbearers.
