Description	:	John D. "J.D." Collis, Sr., 76 of Marion, died February 19, 2003 at the Regional V.A. Medical Center. He was born in Mitchell County on August 4, 1926 to the late D.D. and Jessie Glenn Collis. He was preceded in death by a son John Collis, Jr. Mr. Collis was a retired log home builder and a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served in WWII. He was born in Mitchell County on August 4, 1926 to the late D.D. and Jessie Glenn Collis. He was preceded in death by a son John Collis, Jr. Mr. Collis was a retired log home builder and a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served in WWII. Mr. Collis is survived by his wife, Britta Carpenter Collis of the home; two daughters, Judy Koon of North Augusta, SC, Sharon Stepp, of Woodfin, NC; three sons, Charles Collis, US Navy, Japan, Jeff Collis, Hendersonville, NC, Pat Stepp, Asheville, NC; two brothers Glenn Collis, Lenoir, NC & Jim Collis, Marion; a sister Ivory Hopper, of Arizona. Also surviving are five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Graveside services for Mr. Collis will be held Saturday, February 20, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at the Collis Family Cemetery in Little Switzerland, with Richard Hollifield officiating. Military rites will be provided by the U. S. Marine Corps. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountian Area Hospice, 85 Zillicoa St., Asheville, NC 28801
