Funeral services in charge of the Rev. Leo G. Wolfe, pastor of the First Methodist Church, were held at the Coder-Anderson Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon. Milo Dailey III sang a solo "Beyond the Sunset", and with Wayne Textor sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye". They were accompanied by Mrs. John J. Rogers. Casket bearers were Ross Trucks, Gurney Parker, Wesley Davis, Joe Davis, South Parker and Frank Shirbroun. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with Masonic services. O. J. Oliver gave the Masonic funeral oration. Obituary John Davis, son of Joseph and Celia Davis, was born August 14, 1870 in Scott County, Iowa, and passed away at Coon Rapids November 22, 1953, at the age of 83 years, three months and 8 days. He was united in marriage to Alice Titus on August 30, 1893 and they began their married life together on a farm three miles northwest of Coon Rapids on which Mr. Davis had lived since the age of seven. They continue to live on this farm until 1934 when they moved to Coon Rapids. In 1943 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The last years of their life they lived in a small house near the home of their daughter. Mrs. Davis passed away May 10, 1951. Until a short time before his death Mr. Davis was quite active and made daily trips downtown to visit with his many friends. He was always interested in the farm activities and served as clerk of Union township for nearly 50 years. He was baptized in the Methodist faith and was a member of Charity Lodge, A. F. & A. M. for more than 50 years. Left to mourn his passing are his three children; Fred C. Davis, Marshalltown, Mrs. Archer (Celia) Textor and J. Boyd Davis of Coon Rapids; three sisters, Mrs. John (Maud) Bell, Mrs. Fred (Jesse) Anderson, Mrs. Frank (Millie) Anderson. Also by five grandchildren, Wilson Davis, Des Moines; Clayton Davis, Coon Rapids; Mrs. Marjorie Sigler, Sheldon; Marianne Davis, Carroll; Mrs. Donna Lund, Estherville, also by for great-grandchildren. He will be missed also by other relatives and by his many friends for he was of a cheery disposition and loved by all.
