Description	:	John Diehl Freeze was born March 8, 1882, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of William Jacob and Nellie Johanna Diehl Freeze. He was a twin to Howard William Freeze. On July 11, 1913, in Frederick County, he married Katherine Grace Wertenbaker, daughter of George and Jennie Wertenbaker. They were the parents of one son: Paul Diehl Freeze. John lived in Thurmont for most of his life, until moving to Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland, after his wife's death, to live with their son. Read More	John Diehl Freeze was born March 8, 1882, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of William Jacob and Nellie Johanna Diehl Freeze. He was a twin to Howard William Freeze. On July 11, 1913, in Frederick County, he married Katherine Grace Wertenbaker, daughter of George and Jennie Wertenbaker. They were the parents of one son: Paul Diehl Freeze. John lived in Thurmont for most of his life, until moving to Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland, after his wife's death, to live with their son. He passed away on February 29, 1956, in Bethesda, Montgomery County, and was buried March 2nd in Weller's Church Cemetery in Thurmont. Greatly surprising their friends, Mr. John D. Freeze, Thurmont, and Miss Catherine G. Wertenbaker, of Graceham, were quietly married yesterday. The license was obtained in Baltimore. After the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Freeze left on a honeymoon trip. Mr. Freeze is well-known around Thurmont, being engaged with his brother in the tinning and plumbing business." Newspaper notice for John D. Freeze from the Frederick Post, Saturday, August 7, 1954: "John D. Freeze left Thurmont Saturday to make his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul D. Freeze, in Rockville." Obituary for John Diehl Freeze from a Frederick County newspaper of Wednesday, February 29, 1956: "John D. Freeze, former resident of Thurmont, for the past two years residing with his son, Paul D. Freeze, in Rockville, died this morning at one o'clock at the Suburban Hospital, Bethesda. He was aged 73 years and was a son of the late William J. and Jeanna (sic) Diehl Freeze. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Thurmont, and the I. O. O. F. Lodge, Thurmont. Surviving are the son and three grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. The body rests at the funeral home in Thurmont where friends may call. Services will be held Friday at the funeral home at two o'clock. Rev. Charles H. Corbett will officiate. Burial in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont. M. L. Creager and Son funeral director." Obituary for John Diehl Freeze from the Catoctin Enterprise of Friday, March 2, 1956: "John Diehl Freeze, a native of Thurmont, died at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, on Wednesday, February 29, at 4:00 a.m. A son of the late William J. and Joanna Diehl Freeze, he was 73 years of age. Mr. Freeze was a retired Western Maryland Railroad employee. He had lived in Thurmont all his life until about two years ago when he went to make his home with his son, Paul D. Freeze, Washington. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Thurmont, and the Good Samaritan Lodge, I. O. O. F., Thurmont. His wife, Katherine G. Wertenbaker Freeze, predeceased him in 1945. He is survived by one son, Paul, with whom he made his home, three grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body is at the Creager funeral home where friends may call until time for the services today (Friday) at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Charles H. Corbett, pastor of the deceased, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Blue Ridge Cemetery, here. M. L. Creager and Son, funeral directors." Paul, Francis Beall, Donald Dunn, Lester Fisher, John Robinson and Paul Spaulding. Interment was in Blue Ridge Cemetery. M. L. Creager and Son, funeral directors."
