April 24, 1936 - Carroll Daily Herald - John Dinan, 67, passed away at 5 o'clock this morning in the hospital here after an illness of a few hours. He suffered a heart attack at 9 o'clock Wednesday evening while visiting with friends and was taken to the hospital, where he gradually became weaker until his death this morning. Prior to Wednesday night, Mr. Dinan had been in apparent good health although on several occasions during the last few years had suffered attacks of indigestion. Mr Dinan had been a resident of Carroll for the past 23 years. He was born May 24, 1868 in New Haven, CT, the son of Mr and Mrs John Dinan. In 1871 the family came to Iowa locating in Benton county where they lived five years. They moved to Story county, living there two years, and in 1880 located on a farm in Greene county, four miles south of Ralston. Miss Katie Horan became the bride of John Dinan on April 19, 1899 at Scranton, Ia. They moved to a farm south of Ralston where they lived until 1913, moving at that time to Carroll. Mr. Dinan retired from farming and he and his family located in the house on East Fifth street, which had since been their home. His wife passed away on Sept. 17, 1927. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. John Horan (Mary) of Terrill, Ia., one brother, Al Dinan of Carroll, and a granddaughter, Donna Mae Horan. His father died in 1901 and his mother passed away in 1896. Two brothers, Thomas and Robert Dinan, also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning at the St. Joseph church. Very Rev. P.T. Lynch will read the requiem mass and interment will be in the St. Joseph cemetery. The body is at the Gregory Funeral home where it will remain until time of services. His daughter was notified of her father's critical illness and came from Terril last night.
