Stowe - Posted November 20, 2000 Wenatchee John D. Stowe, 69, a four-year resident of East Wenatchee and formerly a longtime resident of Chelan, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at his home following a brief illness. He was born April 7, 1931, at Rogersville, MO, the son of John E. and Bessie (Hendrickson) Stowe. He moved with his family to Oroville in 1942. He attended schools there and was graduated from Oroville High School in 1949. In 1950, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict until his discharge in 1953. Following his discharge, he returned to Missouri where he attended school for a year and became a bookkeeper. In 1956, he moved to the Lake Chelan area where he performed bookkeeping for several local businesses including Damskov Chevrolet, Chelan Ford and Chelan Auto Parts. On October 27, 1962, he was married to Barbara Laraine (Huckins) Rector Stowe Freeman Neher (1933-2007). He was then employed with Chelan County P.U.D. as a meter reader from 1992 until his retirement in 1996. In 1995, he was the runner-up in competition for the Meter Reader of the Year -- an International Award. On March 17, 1972, he was married to Jeri Weeks and she later preceded him in death. On December 10, 1993, he was married to Shirley Kinney at Coeur d'Alene, ID. Since 1996, he had temporary employment with both Chelan and Douglas County P.U.D.s. He was most recently employed with Fred Meyer Stores in East Wenatchee. He was a member of Lake Chelan Lutheran Church and served as a volunteer firefighter with what is now known as Chelan County Fire District #7. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home; a son, Mike Stowe, of Chelan; his stepchildren: Bud Rector of Barre, VT; Ken Rector of Chelan; Roxanne Paul of Sunnyside; Kathy Picton of Manson; Kelley Wood of Chewelah; John G. Stowe of Algona; Roger Kinney of Manson; Kerri Goforth of Wenatchee; his foster children: Jon, Tana and Michael Conca; a brother, Bill Stowe of Desert Aire; Norma McCarver of Brewster; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a step-daughter, Deanna Tibbs. Services will be conducted Tuesday, November 21, at 1 p.m. from Chelan United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Erickson officiating. Private interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Lake Chelan Lutheran Church. Services are under the direction of Precht-Rose Chapel, Chelan. Inscription: US NAVY KOREA
