Read More	Source: Victor Record 11/27/1928 Death has claimed one of Victor's best known and most highly respected citizens - John E. Wilson, known to all his friends and intimates as "Jack" Wilson. Mr. Wilson had been in failing health for some months, due to a heart affliction. Last Wednesday week, he suffered another attack and, in spite of the best skill and medical attention, he failed to rally and passed away about 3 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, 19028. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 21, at the M E. Church, conducted by the Rev. O. E. McBride. The church was filled with friends who came to pay their last tribute of respect. The pastor delivered a very appropriate sermon, using as his text II Samuel 20:3: "There is but a step twixt me and death." Songs were sung by a male quartet, composed of Messrs. Hollis Fish, Earl Woodrum, Gilbert Talley and G H. Talley, with Mrs. M. Jacobs at the piano. The pall bearers were Edward Levin, S F. Steffy, J. W. Shultz, Jr., H. W. Schrader, Frank Hansen and Henry Wahl. At the conclusion of the service interment was made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. All the business houses of Victor were closed during the hour of the funeral as a mark of respect to a former business associate. The following sketch of the life of Mr. Wilson was read at the funeral: John E. Wilson, son of Robert and Elizabeth Wilson, was born in Orputh, County of Durham, England, May 20, 1855, and died at Victor, Iowa, Nov. 18, 1928, aged 73 years, 5 months and 28 days. He was married to Elizabeth Fenwick in July, 1878, who died in July 1921 after 45 years of a happy wedded life. To this union were born four children, two of whom, the oldest and youngest, preceded their parents in death. One daughter, Jennie, wife of Edward C. Kempf, and one son Richard with his wife, both of Victor, survive him; also three grandchildren Gertrude Kempf of New York City, Lester and Earl Kempf at home. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister, all of whom live in England, together with a number of nephews and nieces. Mr. Wilson's father was a Methodist minister and it was in the home that he acquired the love of the Bible that kept with him all through life and of which he was a great student, every day reading and studying some part of it.
