P. and Ella Swanson, died at 6:40 Saturday morning, March 25, 1899 at the age of 23 years and 14 days. He was born in Page County, Iowa March 11, 1876 and with parents moved to Fullerton, Nance County, Nebr. several years ago and located on a farm 9 miles west of Fullerton. He was the middle member of 11 children and was the first of the family to depart for the spirit world. He took down with measles about the 14th of March and it was with much difficulty that they were brought out on him. They seemed to have affected his kidneys, causing kidney trouble from which he died. He was converted in Nov. 1895 and united with the North Star Evangelical Church. He was a consistent christian and on Wednesday before his death he called the family to his bedside and sang to them some songs, one of which was "Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus," then bade them all good bye, saying he was going to be with Jesus. He was conscious up to a short time passing away in a sort of peaceful slumber. The entire family were present when the sad hour came. On account of measles in the family making it dangerous for some of them to attend the services at the church, a short service was held at the house after which the body was taken to the church and the funeral sermon was preached by the pastor from St. John 11-25. The closing hymnwas "Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep." A large number of sympathizing friends attended the services after which the body was taken to Fullerton and laid away in the cemetery to await the resurrection morn. The departed leaves a father and mother, eight brothers, two sisters and a host of friends to mourn his loss. This is the first death that has occurred in the North Star class since it was organized Dec. 8, 1895.
