Description	:	John E. Parmely was born in Cobb, Wis. May 3, 1866, and passed away at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 8 days at the hospital in Chamberlain, November 11, after having had a serious operation from which he never regained consciousness. He was the second son of Melvin A. and Elizabeth Parmely. He came with his parents to South Dakota from Iowa when a young man, where he resided in Hand county until about 1900. He moved to Chamberlain where he was employed by the U. S. mail service for a number of years, then served as... Read More	John E. Parmely was born in Cobb, Wis. May 3, 1866, and passed away at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 8 days at the hospital in Chamberlain, November 11, after having had a serious operation from which he never regained consciousness. He was the second son of Melvin A. and Elizabeth Parmely. He came with his parents to South Dakota from Iowa when a young man, where he resided in Hand county until about 1900. He moved to Chamberlain where he was employed by the U. S. mail service for a number of years, then served as sheriff for two terms. He was appointed deputy U. S. marshal, in which capacity he served several years. From there he went to Hartington, Nebr., where he served as chief of police for a number of years. He returned to South Dakota two years ago. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Chamberlain. He leaves to mourn his loss, two brothers, Ben F. of Wessington Springs, and, Arthur F. of Wheatland, Wyo., and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Dearborn of Miller, and Mrs. Frank Wood of Monior, Wash., and a number of close relatives.
