Burial at Montour The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Harrison funeral home in Tama and was conducted by Rev. Thomas R. Hill, pastor of the Toledo Presbyterian church. Mrs. Carl B. Harrison, accompanied by Mrs. C.S. Brice sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden". Pallbearers were Clifford Flynn, Alfred Lacina, Carl Anderson, Oscar Anderson, George Thompson, and Glen Anderson. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery at Montour. John Elmer Sturtz, eldest son of Noah and Eliza Sturtz was born in Wellersburg, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. August 31, 1872. He died November 7 at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 7 days. Resident County 62 Years At the age of 7 years, he came with his parents to Tama county and settled on a farm in Highland township, where he grew to manhood. On June 8, 1898, he was united in marriage with Addie Hamiel and to this union were born two sons, Walter Vaughn, of Tama, and Ralph Irwin, of Montezuma. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence and a sister Laura Dunbar. Besides the widow he leaves to mourn his departure two sons and 16 grandchildren. Other survivors are four brothers, Frank of Montour; Fred of Laurel; and Ira of Birmingham Alabama; and two sisters, Myra Sturtz of Portland, Oregon; and Mrs. Dora Parmenter, of Gilman. Mr. Sturtz, was a kind and loving husband and father, who bore the troubles and trials of his loved ones, forgetful of his own. With patience and fortitude he carried his burdens as a true christian. Likewise, he was ever mindful and helpful to others. Attended Funeral Services Mr. and Mrs. Sturtz lived in the community for about seven years. They resided on a farm northwest of Toledo four years, and since retiring from the farm had lived in Toledo. Relatives here from a distance to attend the service were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sturtz, of Laurel, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Baker of Marshalltown and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Parmenter , of Gilman.
