The pallbearers were Deward DuToit, Merle Trout, Jesse Richards, James Hanus, Albert Wall and Alfred Neiderman. Internment was in the Montour cemetery. Ralph Irwin Sturtz was born July 14, 1900, the younger son of John and Addie Hamiel Sturtz, and died suddenly May 1, 1948, having reached the age of 47 years, 9 months and 16 days. Born in Highland township, he finished the rural schools and later assisted his father in farming. On December 12, 1927 he was married to Reba A. Crawford of Toledo by Rev. Sylvester E. Ellis of Marshalltown. Six children came to bless this union. Myron Donald, killed in an auto accident June 25, 1932 and an infant son who died at birth July 4, 1942, preceded their father in death. Surviving are the widow, three daughters, Myra Dell, aged 16, Lillian Rose, 14, and Wanda Lou, aged 10; a son, Neal Eldon, aged 13; his mother Mrs. Addie Sturtz, living in Tama and a brother, Walter, also of Tama. All of Mr. Sturtz' life was spent on farms in Tama county with the exception of 5 years, 1938 to 1943 spent on a farm northeast of Montezuma.
