He was born in Marion County, Iowa on February 12, 1856. In August 1882 he married Miss Laura Shepard The funeral was held from the home, April 11, services being conducted by Rev. W. Titus. He then married her sister, Laura L. Shepherd. They had one child, William David Close. John died April 8, 1916 in Crawford County, Kansas, and is buried in the Rosebank Cemetery, Mulberry, Crawford County, Kansas
