Read More	JOHN FRANCIS ALLERDING, 95, a life-long resident of Loudonville died peacefully at McMullen Assisted Care early Tuesday morning, September 15, 2015. A former resident of North Market Street and Snyder Drive, John had been residing at McMullen Assisted Care since October 2013 where he was lovingly attended to by John and Mona McMullen and their caring staff. John was born in Loudonville on July 25, 1920 and was the eldest of five children of the late Linus J. and Gertrude (Gardner) Allerding. He was a 1939 graduate of Loudonville High School and a lifetime fan of the Redbird’s sports teams, watching all eight of his children and most of his 22 grandchildren graduate from his Alma Mater. He resided with several of his high school classmates at McMullen Assisted Care. Following graduation from high school, John began working at the Flxible Company along with his father and he concluded a 43-year career in the Parts Department with his retirement in 1985. His work at the Flxible Company was interrupted by military service when John was inducted into the US Army in October of 1942 and he served until his honorable discharge in February of 1946. John achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and served with the 443rd Engineer’s Base Depot near Calcutta, India. John was tremendously proud of his service in the China-India-Burma Theater and earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asia-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Upon his discharge, he served in the Ohio Army Reserves from December 1947 through December of 1951. John met the love of his life, Esther Mae Roach, while working together at the Flxible Company and they married on July 9, 1949 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Nine children were the product of that love and John thrived in his role as a loving husband and devoted “hands on” father. Their home at 310 N. Market Street was filled with not only their own children but with nephews, nieces, friends of their kids, and eventually 22 grandchildren. John enjoyed cooking for his family and maintaining and renovating the family home. He loved dogs and was especially fond of the Eskimo Spitz breed, of which he had several. Besides raising a family, John loved gardening and often put out several gardens each summer. The borders of his gardens were always reserved for Esther’s favorite flowers and her flower beds adorned the yard along with apple, cherry and peach trees. His life revolved around his family and his faith and he was a life-long member of St. Peter Catholic Church where he was baptized, married, served Mass, sang in the choir and watched many of his children married. He served for many years with the Men’s Holy Name Society of St. Peter and was a devoted parishioner. As an extension of his patriotism and proud service to his country, John was a life member of both the American Legion Post 257, Loudonville and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8586, Perrysville. He served as Post Commander for the American Legion, a member of the Color Guard, and marched in many Memorial Day parades throughout his life. He was a soloist in many of the Legion Minstrel Shows and was a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of the Legion Canteen for many years. A cap on his military devotion was placed when he visited the WWII Memorial in Washington DC with several family members in 2005. He was proud of the number of people who came up to him to shake his hand and thank him for his service, acknowledging his generation’s sacrifice and courage were not forgotten. John loved Ohio State football and following the hometown Loudonville Redbirds. He was a familiar face “on the fence” at Redbird home games long after his sons and grandsons had ceased playing for the ‘Birds. He would fondly recall sharing a beer with Woody Hayes at Young’s Arcade when Woody would pass through Loudonville en route to Columbus after a recruiting visit. John’s WWII vintage Willy’s Jeep painted scarlet and gray with a Buckeye “Block O” on one door and a “Fighting Redbird” on the other was a common sight on the streets of Loudonville for many years. Watching college football and basketball was one of his greatest pleasures during his later years. Family holidays at John and Esther’s house were eagerly anticipated events with attendance reaching as high as 75 one Christmas Eve dinner. Easter and Thanksgiving dinners were equally well attended and John was in his glory being surrounded by the loving family he and Esther had brought into this world. John is survived by eight children and their spouses: Terry (Randy) Hinkle of Perrysville, Dr. Steve (Peg) Allerding, Jeff (Cheryl) Allerding, Mary Ann (Randy) Mosher, and Alice (Gary) Griffin all of Loudonville, Ginny (Bert) Shreve of Union City, Pennsylvania, Barbara (Keith) Linerode of Marlboro, and Kathy (Robert) Nist of Canton; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Alice Frey and Martha (Charles) Henley of Loudonville; and over 30 nieces and nephews throughout the US. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Esther (Roach) Allerding in 1991; an infant son, Vincent Paul Allerding; two brothers: Joseph and Eugene Allerding; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church with Father Vincent Hawk officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the American Legion and VFW will follow in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME, LOUDONVILLE on Friday, September 18 where a Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of St. Peter Catholic Church, 220 East Butler Street, Loudonville, Ohio, 44842 or the American Legion Post 257, 131 S.
