Description	:	John F. Ficke was born October 11, 1862, in Thiensville, Wis., and passed away peacefully to his eternal reward December 13, 1944, aged 82 years, 2 months and 2 days. Mr. Ficke came to Nebraska with his parents in 1869 and located on a homestead near Pleasant Dale. In 1887 he was united in marriage to Alma Schnoor. Ficke was born October 11, 1862, in Thiensville, Wis., and passed away peacefully to his eternal reward December 13, 1944, aged 82 years, 2 months and 2 days. Mr. Ficke came to Nebraska with his parents in 1869 and located on a homestead near Pleasant Dale. In 1887 he was united in marriage to Alma Schnoor. They moved on the farm, now known as the home place. To this union two children were born, Amanda and Henry J. Mrs. Ficke passed away in the spring of 1892, leaving him with two small children. On March 9, 1893, he was married to Caroline Luebbe. Six children were born to this union, Paul W., Arthur C. and John A. Preceding him in death are one daughter Johanna and two infant sons and one son-in-law, the late Ben Mundhenke. Mr. and Mrs. Ficke retired from their farm in 1928, moving to Seward, where they enjoyed their declining years. They considered it a great privilege to observe their golden wedding anniversary two years ago. Although Mr. Ficke was handicapped by being lame, which confined him to his home in later years, he was always contented and patient with his affliction, enjoying his home and children and the many friends that called on him. Mr. Ficke was a life long member of the St. Paul's Lutheran church and a regular attendant when he was able. He also served the congregation as a member of the official board for 18 years. His departure leaves to mourn, his wife Caroline, one daughter, Mrs. Ben Mendhenke, four sons, Henry J., Pleasant Dale, Paul W. and John A., Milford, Arthur C., Utica; four daughters-in-law, 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Surviving also are four brothers, Herman and Henry of Seward, Chris of Pleasant Dale, Frank of Milford, and one sister, Mrs. Paul Herpolsheimer, Seward, other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon, December 16, at St. Paul's Lutheran church in I township, conducted by Rev. K. J. Graf. The four sons and two grandsons, Ralph and Richard Ficke, acted as pallbearers. Interment was in the church cemetery. Seward Independent, Seward, NE, Wed, December 20, 1944
