Description	:	Margaret Ficke nee Vietz, was born December 27, 1840, in Bargsted, Hanover, Germany, where she was baptized and reared in the teachings of the Lutheran church. In the year 1862 she came to Milwaukee, Wisc., where she was joined in holy wedlock with John Ficke. In 1870 she came to Nebraska with her family, near Pleasant Dale. Here she went through the hardships of pioneer life, but under all conditions she proved to be a true help mate to her husband, and a loving and self-sacrificing mother to her children, seeking not only their secular, but also their spiritual welfare.... Read More	Margaret Ficke nee Vietz, was born December 27, 1840, in Bargsted, Hanover, Germany, where she was baptized and reared in the teachings of the Lutheran church. In the year 1862 she came to Milwaukee, Wisc., where she was joined in holy wedlock with John Ficke. In 1870 she came to Nebraska with her family, near Pleasant Dale. Here she went through the hardships of pioneer life, but under all conditions she proved to be a true help mate to her husband, and a loving and self-sacrificing mother to her children, seeking not only their secular, but also their spiritual welfare. In March 1900 the deceased, with her husband, retired from the farm and moved to Seward, where they purchased a home in the northern part of town. In Seward they became members of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. July 14, 1912, she, with her husband, surrounded by her children and children's children, celebrated her golden wedding anniversary. In the following year, when the tornado passed through the northern part of Seward, her home was also destroyed, but her life, as well as the life of her husband and that of a grandchild, were wonderfully spared by the protecting hand of God. On the 28th day of March, 1920, her husband was called to rest. She has been bedridden for about nine weeks, getting weaker from day to day. Tuesday afternoon, September 20, 1921, she went home, trusting and confessing her Savior to the end. She leaves her five sons, John, Henry, Herman, Christ and Frank Ficke, and daughter Mary, Mrs. Paul Herpolsheimer, two brothers, John and Henry Vietz, one sister, Mrs. Engel Paschke, 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
