Description	:	John was the s/o Hezekiah (E)Ames (1790 - 1858) & Sarah "Sally" Scolfield (1801 - 1877). He married Sophronia Josephine "Jesse" Gott on 10 Oct 1865. She was b 27 Sept 1847, Deer Island; d 25 Feb 1874, North Haven. John served during the Civil War in the 20th Maine Infantry from 1 Jan 1865 - 3 March 1865. His mother, Sarah Ames, received funds for him from Jan to March 1865, 75 cents / week, 13 weeks for a total of $9.75 John was very much involved with town affairs. In April 1870, John took on an indenture of Richard E Robbins, "to learn the art and trade of farmer in the manner of apprentice, to dwell and serve from the day of the ensealing hereof until October 11, 1882, when the said Richard E Robbins will arrive at the age of 21 years." John's death date is taken from his election to Collector of Taxes in March 1873 & his replacement chosen in April of 1873 due to his death.
