Connell Taken By Death Death Occurred Thursday Afternoon. Funeral Saturday A.M. In Blanchaine Home Funeral service for John H. Connell was held last Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock in the Blanchaine home and was conducted by Rev. G.D. Gaide, pastor of the M.E. church. Mrs. F.E. Lehman and Mrs. H.D. Kline sang two selections, Beautiful Isle and Rock of Ages, and Miss Lillian Garrabrant played the accompaniments. The casket bearers were George Banger, J.W. Lehman, L.J. Tutt, Weldon Betts, H.E. Waldroff and Roy E. Ashley. The body was laid in the family lot in West View beside the remains of his wife and daughter. John H. Connell, well known to all the older residents of this community, was born in Ripley county, Indiana, October 6th, 1849, and died in La Porte City Thursday afternoon, August 5th, 1937, aged eighty-seven years and ten months. He came west early in life and on March 8th, 1881, he was married to Miss Ellen S. Booth, who was born in Logansport, Indiana, and who had come La Porte City in early womanhood. They established their home here and remained in this place for the following thirty-two years. There was born into their home one daughter, who was always a comfort to them and their mainstay in their declining years. For many years Mr. Connell operated a meat market here, being at one time in partnership with the late John N. McQuilkin, and through his business relations was acquainted with most of the people in this community. In 1913 the Connell family moved to Waterloo where they made their home for a time and the following year went to Fort Dodge to reside. In their new location Mr. Connell was care taker of a large store building and held that trustworthy job until declining health forced him to resign. Mrs. Connell died August 11th, 1928, but the family home was maintained in Fort Dodge until October 1st, 1930. The daughter married H.J. Blanchaine of this place on September 29th, of that year and when she came back to live here, her father accompanied her. After the death of Mrs. Blanchaine on June 12th, 1933, Mr. Connell was cared for by her husband until he, too, answered the final summons on May 16th, 1936. Since that time he has lived with Mr. and Mrs. N.H. Blanchaine and Raymond Blanchaine. Mr. Connell was a charter member of Narcissus lodge No. 192, K. of P., and was always interested in the welfare of the order, and attended the meetings regularly as long as his health permitted. The deceased slipped gradually from this life into the life to come. He had been confined to his room the greater part of the time since last December, the loss of his eyesight making it hazardous for him to go about the house. He apparently suffered no pain and death followed the disintegration of the entire system, due to age.
