He attended school at District 35 and St. Ludger Academy. He married Evelyn T. Beyer on September 6, 1939 at Mt. Carmel, IA. The couple lived at Carroll, IA, Neligh, Osmond, Brunswick and Creighton. He farmed in the Osmond, Neligh and Brunswick areas and established Wortman Seed Service in Creighton in 1956. His wife died July 11, 1976. On November 24, 1977 he married Mae E. (Taylor) Horstman at Creighton. They lived at Creighton and in Arizona at Phoenix, Peoria and Lake Havasue City. He was a member of St. Ludger Catholic Church, a life member of Knights of Columbus, a fourth degree Knight of the Verdigre Council and a charter member of Lions Club in Peoria, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Mae; seven children; six stepchildren; 24 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one step great grandchild; three sisters, Adeline Thompson and Edith Schuchman of Lexington; three brothers, Richard of Thousand Oaks, CA. Leonard of Creighton and Kenneth of Aurora and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn, a daughter, a son, a granddaughter and three brothers. ...29 July 1992
