Becker Taken By Death on Sunday Funeral services are to be held this Wednesday afternoon from St. Paul's Lutheran church for John H. Becker, 80, lifelong resident of the community who died Sunday at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital where he had been a patient since February 14. The services are being conducted by Rev. Howard Black, pastor of St. Paul's church, and burial is to be in the Guttenberg City cemetery in charge of the Tuecke funeral home. Pallbearers are to be Otto Pensel, Ernest Kickbush, Francis Behrend, Lester Troester, Roland Borman and Fred Niehaus, Jr. Mr. Becker was born June 24, 1880, in Millville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Becker, Sr. On February 9, 1905, he married Carrie Noack at Elkader and the couple farmed for many years before moving to Guttenberg about 16 years ago. Surviving Mr. Becker are Mrs. Becker and one son, Oakland Becker of Colesburg. Also surviving are a brother, Arch Becker of Guttenberg, and a sister, Mrs. George Hyde of Clermont. June 24, 1880, in Millville Twp., third child of John F. and Barbara Helen Kauffman Becker (see their article). John attended one semester of business college for bookkeeping at Fayette. John m. Carrie Mae Noack Feb. 9, 1905, In Elkader by J. Ross Richardson, a J.P., and were snowed in at the George Wolf home for nine days before they could return home with a team and cutter. Carrie b. Sept. 19, 1882, with a twin, Garrison Noack, in Jefferson Twp., the youngest daughter of Peter S. and Emeline Bowman Noack (see their article) and received her education in the rural schools as did John. They were the parents of two sons: Oakland N. Becker (see his article), and Garrison (Gary) Doyle Becker b. July 15, 1913, in Millville Twp., and m. Ruth Garkow Sept. 29, 1934, in Guttenberg. Ruth Garkow b. Feb. 20, 1914, in Colesburg, the fourth daughter of Gustav and Getsie Bowman Garkow. Gary farmed with his father and brother and did some trucking for farmers. Gary Becker and Gerald Schrunk took cars of people to the World's Fair in Chicago in 1933 and 1934 and were tour guides for them. Gary and Ruth lived in Sec. 17, Millville Twp. Gary, Veryl Minger, and John Kolker all drowned in the Mississippi River, June 10, 1949. Gary is buried in the Guttenberg City Cemetery. Ruth moved to California that fall. Later she married Russel Aldag who d. in 1970. Ruth Aldag resides at Sunny Vale, Calif. John and Carrie farmed the now century farm a mile west of Millville in Sec. 16 and retired to Guttenberg in 1945. John d. May 21, 1961, and Carrie d. May 29, 1961, just four days aprt. Buried in Guttenberg City Cemetery.
