Description	:	John H. was born on February 25, 1908. He married Bobby Dale on May 5, 1942 in Virginia City, Montana. John H. died on May 30, 1983 at age 75. He was the grandson of John (the first) and Emeline (Owens) Byrd. "John H. Byrd of 4590 Jimtown Road died Monday at his home. He was 75. John H. died on May 30, 1983 at age 75. He was the grandson of John (the first) and Emeline (Owens) Byrd. "John H. Byrd of 4590 Jimtown Road died Monday at his home. He was 75. Born Feb. 25, 1908, in Stockett to John and Ina Kincaid Byrd, he attended Stockett and Great Falls schools. His parents were early day pioneers in the Alder Gulch and York area. He was raised in the Millegan area of Meagher County. Mr. Byrd was employed on horse ranches and was engaged in independent mining and had served as president of the state Mining Association and the Miners Union in Wallace, Idaho. For the past 35 years he has made his home in the York area. He was married to Barbara Dale on May 5, 1942, in Virginia City. Survivors include his wife, Bobby; five sons, John and Stanley, both of Helena, George of Phillipsburg, Donald of Shelby and Richard of Tennessee; a brother, W. J. Byrd of Townsend; a sister, Nellie Core of Rapid City, S.D.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Retz Funeral Home in Helena." Independent Record, 5/31/1983, page 8A Cremation took place at Hillcrest, Great Falls. Some of his ashes are buried in this cemetery between John (the first) and Emeline (Owens) Byrd; the remaining ashes were scattered over the Big Belt Mountains. Tombstone. "Father and grandfather, lifetime miner. Gentle and good in his great physical strength. A true son of this pioneer family." A new stone has been placed in the Byrd plot and his name is inscribed on a bronze plate along with three others.
