Description	:	Boone News Republican November 5, 1948 John Happel Funeral Rites Funeral services for John Happel were conducted on Thursday, Oct, 28, at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Harrison township with the Rev. Martin L. Seltz in charge of the rites. "Asleep in Jesus" and "For Me to Live is Jesus" were the hymns sung by a duet consisting of Mrs. Herman Zagel and Mrs. Marvin Peter. Pallbearers were Albert Haerther, Henry Mindeman, Herman Murken, Julius Krumm, Fred Peter and Henry Peter. Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Tietjen and Dorothea Moeller were in charge of the flowers. Interment was in the St. Paul's Lutheran church cemetery. Life Sketch John Henry Happel was born near Cedar Rapids, Ia., on January 13, 1874, the son of George Happel and Katharina nee Rinderknecht. On April 27, 1899, he was married to Elizabeth Moeller at St. Paul's church in Harrison township. For four years he was engaged in business in the town of Mackey, for six years in farming and carpenter work ion South Dakota and in 1910 he took up a homestead near Foremost in Alberta, Canada, where he had made his home since. In ill health for the past three years, he came to the United States over a year ago for medical treatment and submitted to two operations. Last May he returned to his home in Canada, but his condition became progressively worse until his death on October 21 at the age of 74 years, nine months and eight days. Surviving him are his widow; three brothers, Theodore of Latimer, Paul of Van Horn, and Walter of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Michel of Stratford, Mrs. Carl Stoll of Boone and Mrs. Clara Schroeder of Latimer.
