Read More	John Lambert Jr, 87, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. John Henry Lambert Jr. was born on March 15, 1934 to John Sr. and Lyma (Harkness) Lambert on a farm in Akron, Iowa. He was the youngest of 6 children. They lived on the farm near Akron until John was about 6 years old; they then moved to a farm near Brunsville, Iowa. John attended school in Brunsville and then began working as a farmhand for some neighbor farmers. When his brother Ralph was drafted into the military, John worked full-time on the farm with his father. John later came down with polio and was bedridden for 6 months. They didn't know if he would ever walk again; he was first in a wheelchair and then used a pair of crutches. Those didn't work great on the farm, so John created his own transportation with an engine cart, mower wheels, a gas engine, and a belt around a wheel. Later in life, John would wear a brace and always have some trouble with his knees. John took a trip to South Carolina with his brother Ralph to visit one of Ralph's service comrades, Watson. There they met Watson's sisters, Virginia and Betty Barwick. John asked Betty to marry him and they were united in marriage a year later on November 14, 1954 in Sumter, South Carolina. They made their home in rural Plymouth County and John began farming full time. John also drove for SIMPCO, worked as a mechanic, and worked the Daily Sentinel for a few years. John enjoyed taking his family camping when their children were young. They traveled all over the United States, seeing over 27 states while visiting cattle ranches, National Parks, mountains, and seeing the Atlantic Ocean. He also enjoyed going fishing and taking care of their garden. John and Betty always had a large garden with potatoes, sweet corn, and tomatoes that Betty would often freeze or can their extra produce. John is survived by his daughter, Sue (Jeff) Olson of Le Mars, IA, his son, John (Lisa) Lambert III of Orange City, Iowa, and his son, David (Edna) Lambert; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brother, Ralph Lambert; and other extended relatives. John is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; siblings: infant William, infant Rosa, Amelia (John) Henrich, and Robert Lambert; and sister in law, Virginia Lambert.
