STOKER WED., FEB.28 John Jacob Stoker, son of John and Mary Rauch Stoker, was born July 13, 1895 in Hartford township, Iowa county about 1 1/2 miles east of Victor. He was baptized at the St. Johns Lutheran church in Lincoln township Aug. 18 of the same year. He received his education in the rural school at Hartford Center and in the Christian Day school of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Lincoln township. He was confirmed in that church april 4, 1909 and remained a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, until the day of his death. He served in the U.S. military in World War I from May 24, 1918 to June 7, 1919. In 1906 the family moved to farm house southeast of Brooklyn. In 1922 his parents moved to Victor, but he and his brother, Walter remained on the farm until 1961 at which time they moved to the present home in Victor. Since that time he had been employed by Rieke and Seda, veterinarians, in their office. Mr. Stoker had made his home with is brother and sister-in-law since 1926. Last Saturday, Feb. 24, he entered the Marengo hospital where he passed away rather suddenly Sunday, Feb. 25 about 4 p.m. at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 12 days. He leaves to mourn his passing his brother and sister-in-law, the Walter Stokers, Victor; one brother, Harold of Des Moines; three sisters Mrs. Herman Fruendt, of Victor, Mrs. Charles Herzberg of Salem, Ore., Mrs. Anna Holley of Brooklyn; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many many friends. Mr. Stoker was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and Arnold, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Mohr. Funeral services were held from the St. James Lutheran Church Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Edward Beckmann officiating. The Victor American Legion Harold E. Smith Post held military rites. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Two organ solos were played by Mrs. Margaret Lyman, "Abide with Me" and "I am Trusting Thee Lord Jesus." Casket bearers were Melvin Fruendt, Wayland Herzberg, Merlin Stoker, Glen Rieke, Leonard Seda, Bruno Van Ersvelde. Honorary casket bearers were Louis Maschmann, Carl Mashmann, Ray Robey, Bill McGarry, Fred Willet, Charles Pawlak, M. W. Felton and Melvin Price.
