There passed away at the Rosemount Military Hospitial, Brisbane, yesterday, after a long illness, Mr. John Madders, junr. who had been a resident of the Maryborough district for a number of years. Read More	Mother: Mary Jane Evans Father John Madders JOHN MADDERS, JUNR. There passed away at the Rosemount Military Hospitial, Brisbane, yesterday, after a long illness, Mr. John Madders, junr. who had been a resident of the Maryborough district for a number of years. He was born in Fernvale, South Wales. 43 years ago, and came to Australia with his parents in 1888 in the sailing ship Scottish Hero, landing in Maryborough. He followed mining pursuits in the Burrum district till enlisting in the First Australian Tunnelling Company in 1916. While on active service at the Front in 1916 he was badly gassed, and was invalided home in that year. The effect of the war resulted in continued ill-health up till the time of his death, and only a few weeks ago he went to Brisbane for hospital treatment. The deceased is survived by his mother and father, six sisters and six brothers. -The sisters are Mesdames ,D. Kerr, J. Kerr. H. Linde, A. Taylor and J. Allen (all of Tobanlea and O Ross (Burrum), whilst the brothers are Messrs. James, William, David, Robert, Thomas and George Madders. The funeral will leave Torbanlea Methodist Church at 3.30 o'clock this afternoon for the Howard Cemetery. Maryborough Chronicle, Wed 26 Jun 1929 John, the oldest of his brothers enlisted in Rockhampton aged 30 years 6 months on April 8, 1916. Like his brothers, he was also a Sapper with the first Tunnelling Company. He was discharged medically unfit on August 2, 1918, and never recovered. He died on June 25, 1929, at the Rosemount Military Hospital in Brisbane.
