Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday (November 20, 2012) at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 410 Patrick Street, Dougherty, with the Rev. Rodney M. Allers as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Dougherty. John Joseph Wihlm was born on June 30, 1922 in rural Cerro Gordo County, the son of Joseph A. and Clara M. (Merfeld) Wihlm. He attended and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic High School in Dougherty. On November 25, 1943 Joe was united in marriage to Edith L. Schick in Dougherty, this union would be blessed with three children, Bernard, Shirley, and Patricia. Joe inherited his love of the land from his father, and following his graduation from high school he began farming with his father and then on his own in later years. He farmed as well as raised livestock in rural Sheffield for many years until his retirement. In his free time Joe enjoyed traveling to Canada on his yearly fishing trip, often times making multiple trips a year! He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dougherty, Farm Bureau, Cerro Gordo Breeder's Association, and served on the Dougherty Elevator Board for 6 years. Those grateful in sharing in his life are his children, Bernard (Carol) Wihlm, Faribault, Minn., Shirley (Bill) Campbell, Mason City, and Patricia (Lynn) Balek, Mason City; his grandchildren, Kris Wihlm, Julie Wihlm and her fiancé, Brian, Michael Campbell, Melissa (Kerry) Bart, Dawn Balek, Cheri Balek, and Ann Balek; his great grandchildren, Logan Campbell and Sashi Bart; and his siblings, Bob (Barb) Wihlm, Cedar Rapids, and Mary Paulus, Mason City. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Edith, and his siblings, Rita and Alphonse.
