Rita Ann Paulus was born Nov. 9, 1931, north of Dougherty, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Merfeld) Wihlm. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School. In 1958, she was united in marriage to Joseph Paulus at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, gardening and fishing. Her family was her pride and joy. She also enjoyed playing Mrs. Santa Claus for about 20 years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Paulus, of Marble Rock; eight children, Joseph, Bill, Julie, Janet, John, Jim, Rick and Ed; 18 grandchildren; three brothers, Joseph Wihlm and his wife, Edith, of Dougherty, Alphonse Wihlm and his wife, Rose, of Rockford, and Bob Wihlm and his wife, Barb, of Cedar Rapids; and one sister, Mary Paulus and her husband Tom, of Mason City. She was preceded in death by her parents.
