Description	:	Our community was greatly shocked and grieved upon hearing Saturday morning, the 2nd of August, of the death of John Kolash, at Trinity hospital in Creston, following an operation for appendicitis. He was taken to the hospital and underwent an operation Wednesday. Hopeful reports continued to come from his bedside until Friday afternoon he seemed to be failing. The family was summoned and he passed away early Saturday morning. Mr. Kolash was one of the most prominent and well known farmers of this section of the country. He has lived in this community since small boyhood and has amassed by sheer industry and close attention to business a considerable quantity of this world's goods, being the owner at the time of his death of about four hundred acres of Iowa land. He has drawn to himself, by his excellent social qualities, his honest upright business dealing, his noble qualities as neighbor and friend, a large circle of warm friends, who will each feel a keen sense of personal loss in his taking away. In the home his loss will be irreparable, and in the community we have lost a good citizen and a kind friend and neighbor who leaves a vacancy which will long in filling. Brief funeral services were held at the home at 10 o'clock a.m. Monday and more extended services at the cemetery. One of the largest crowds ever present at a funeral at this place assembled to pay their last respects to their friend and neighbor and express their sympathy for the stricken family. A selected quartet of friends from Prescott sang three beautiful selections and Rev. Mr. Kortelling, of Creston delivered a touching, comforting address, speaking of the good qualities of the deceased and bringing a message of hope and comfort to the sorrowing relatives. The pallbearers were Louis, James and Will Krisinger, brothers-in-law; Edward Kolash, a brother, and Edward Kralik and Fred Sheffte, sons-in-law. John Kolash was born at Tama, Iowa, May 8, 1870, and died at Creston, Iowa, August 2, 1919, in the 50th year of his life. When a small boy he removed with his widowed mother and two younger brothers to Adams County, Iowa, where the remainder of his life was passed. In 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Barbara Krisinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Krisinger, of this place. To this union were born five children, all of whom survive and were present at the deathbed and funeral of their father. Those who are left to mourn the death of Mr. Kolash are the heart-broken wife, four daughters; Mrs. Nellie Sheffle, of Prescott; Mrs. Florence Kralik, of Williamson; Mrs. Barbara Poik, of St. Louis, Missouri; Miss Frances Kolash, at home, and one son, Frank, also at home; his aged mother, Mrs. Kate Kolash, of Los Angeles, California; two brothers, Frank Kolash, of Los Angeles and Edward Kolash, of Howells, Nebraska, and seven grandchildren. Sincere sympathy is offered the sorrowing relatives.
