Peter's and Paul's church. The requiem high Mass was sung by the Rev. Fr. Wm. P. Hyland. Pallbearers were D. L. Sheker, A. C. Shimon, A. W. Poduska, Geo. Peters, sr., J. J. Pavik and Rex Schade. Interment was in the family lot, in Calvary cemetery. John Kopriva was born in Czechoslovakia, March 21, 1850. Coming to America in 1873, he resided in Wisconsin for a few years, and on August 21, 1877, he was united in marriage with Anna Hudek at Highland, Wisc. Mr. and Mrs. Kopriva moved to Pocahontas county, March 17, 1878, and located on a farm in Sherman township. Six years later they moved to the farm where their son Frank C. Kopriva and family now reside. In 1917 they moved to their home in town. There were the parents of 11 children, two of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Kopriva died August 23, 1938, just two days after they observed their 61st wedding anniversary. Mr. Kopriva was a resident of Pocahontas county for 64 years and he knew and met bravely the trials and tribulations of the pioneer settlers. He was a thrifty and frugal, but at the same time he provided well for the large family of sons and daughters who are a tribute to his fine character. He was a devout member of SS. Peter's and Paul's Catholic church and did his full share in the support of his church. He was a keen observer of local, state and national affairs. Only a few days before his death he expressed his concern over the present world conflict. Mr. Kopriva is survived by four sons, John, George, Louis and Frank C. Kopriva, all of Pocahontas, five daughters, Mary, at home, Mrs. Wm McCoy of Windom, Minn., Mrs. J. V. Poduska and Mrs. Ben Poduska of Pocahontas and Blanche of Omaha, and 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
