Description	:	OBITUARY: Funeral services over the remains of the late John L. Bowman were held at the family home, 1120 Bell street, at 10 o'clock this morning, conducted by Rev. L. T. Guild, pastor of Centenary Methodist Episcopal church. A quartet led by Prof. Calvin rendered very beautifully "Asleep in Jesus," "We'll Never Say Goodbye in Heaven" and a selection. A profusion of beautiful flowers were contributed by friends and neighbors. The interment took place at Evergreen cemetery. The services were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends who gathered to pay their last respects to a worthy man. The services were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends who gathered to pay their last respects to a worthy man. John Lewis Bowman was born in Virginia Dec. 1, 1838. He was married June 7, 1858, to Miss Martha Hoffman in Decatur county, Ia. Twelve children were the fruits of this union, nine of whom are still living. Of this number Mrs. Walter Gillette, Frank and Lafayette Bowman reside in this city; Mrs. Daniel Cave, Dorchester, Neb.; Mrs. Harold M. George (nee Luvena Dale); Mrs. W. Jackson, Henry, Jennie and Ross Bowman at Lincoln. He came to Nebraska in the early 70's and to Beatrice in 1876, where he resided until his death. He has been ill but a few months and his death was brought about by a complication of diseases. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church, and was a near relative of the venerable Bishop Bowman, senior bishop of the Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. Bowman was known by all with whom he came in contact as a hard working, upright man--honest and just. He did not accumulate riches on earth, but took good care of those in his keeping, leaving the legacy of a good family and storing up riches in heaven. In his death the community loses a good citizen, the family a good husband and kind father, but a good soldier of Jesus Christ has gone to his immortal crowning.
