Description	:	John L. Burt was born May 3, 1844 near Furges, Ontario, Canada. He departed this life Nov. 27, 1926, aged 82 years, 6 months and 24 days. He was united in marriage Sept. 17, 1865 to Jane Rea, near Furges, Ontario, Canada. To this union six children were born, four girls and two boys. He was united in marriage Sept. 17, 1865 to Jane Rea, near Furges, Ontario, Canada. To this union six children were born, four girls and two boys. He came to the United States in 1870, living for a time near Decatur, Ill. and also at Blanchard, Ia. In 1884 he moved to Knox county, Nebraska, settling on a farm seven miles east of Creighton. In 1903 he retired and came to town to live and it was during this residence in Creighton that his wife passed away. For the last few years, he has made his home with his son, George Burt, on the farm east of town. Grandpa Burt was one of the Pioneers in every sense of the word. He came when the country was new and put every ounce of his strength in the work of laying and enduring foundation upon which those who were to come after might build a splendid civilization. He was a man of keen judgment and many sought his advice and help in the solution of various difficult problems and the entire community rendered him the tribute of respect and confidence. He was baptized when but a child into the Church of England, of which church he was a member at the time of his decease. He is survived by his six children, Mrs. A. Nihart, Creighton; Mrs. N. Nihart, Creighton; Mrs. H. E. Olmstead, Norfolk; Mrs. Fred Miles, Holyoke, Colo.; George Burt, Creighton, Nebr.; Will Burt, Creighton, Nebr. and nineteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren, who together with a host of friends will miss his kindly presence. Funeral services for the deceased were held at the Methodist church in Creighton Tuesday afternoon Nov. 30 at 1:00 p.m., Rev. E. N. Littrell officiating. Numerous friends and relatives paid their final tribute to a true friend and neighbor. Floral offerings bore mute evidence of the esteem in which the departed was held.
