Description	:	John Hippen, Jr., age 74, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of John Sr. and Irene (Ostendorf) Hippen, on November 19, 1940, in Butler County, near Aplington. He attended school in Aplington and graduated from Aplington High School in 1959. On June 8, 1962, John was united in marriage with MaryLou Evers at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. He owned and operated his... Read More	John Hippen, Jr., age 74, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of John Sr. and Irene (Ostendorf) Hippen, on November 19, 1940, in Butler County, near Aplington. He attended school in Aplington and graduated from Aplington High School in 1959. On June 8, 1962, John was united in marriage with MaryLou Evers at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. They made their home in Aplington, until moving to their current farm south of Aplington in 1968. John worked for Standard Oil until he bought Hippen Motors in Aplington in 1973. He owned and operated his dealership which he sold in 1987. He then worked for several car dealerships in the area and eventually drove school bus for Aplington Head Start Pre-school. He retired in 2012. John was an avid bowler and loved playing fast pitch softball in his younger years. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time at their cabin “Hippen’s Hideaway” on the Shell Rock River, near Marble Rock. John could spend hours sitting on the dock watching the boats go by. He also loved watching sports, especially his beloved Hawkeyes, the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. John loved spending time with his family and watching his two sons play sports when they were in school. He also enjoyed having his family over for supper, and it usually led to everyone singing Karaoke, dancing and playing Pepper. John died December 23, 2014, at Grand Ji Vanté in Ackley, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David on March 15, 2014; and two brothers, Ruben and Daryl Hippen. John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, MaryLou of Aplington; one son, Tim (Christine) Hippen of Aplington; three granddaughters, Ashly (Nick) Bell, Macy Hippen and Mackenzie Hippen all of Parkersburg; two brothers, Dennis (Evelyn) Hippen and Gordon (Joann) Hippen both of Aplington; one sister, Glenda Ludwig of Hawley, Minnesota, one sister-in-law, JoAnn Hippen of Parkersburg and many nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2015, at the Bethel Reformed Church, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery both in rural Aplington. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
