Read More	LAWRENCE SOMERS BURIED SUNDAY DIED FRIDAY AFTER A LONG ILLNESS Mr. John Lawrence Somers, prominent citizen of the Jacksonville section, died at his home there Friday of last week, at the age of 54 years. He had been in a serious condition for some time. A native of Crisfield, he was the son of Littleton B. and Lillian Ford Somers, and had lived here all his life. Mr. Somers was a veteran of World War 1, and served in the U.S. Navy until shortly after Armistice Day, when he received his honorable discharge and returned home. While in the service of his country he contracted a disease which incapacitated him for many years, but in spite of his suffering, he was cheerful and good company. Lawrence Somers was a fine type of citizen, who upheld the heritage handed down to him by his forefathers, who were among the first and most prominent citizens of Somerset. He had a wide circle of friends, who sympathized with him in his illness, and who heard of his death with profound sorrow. As far as he could be, he was helpful to his fellow men and held a high place in the esteem of the people of the community. He rested at his home until Sunday afternoon when the funeral services were held in St. Peters Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. John Diehl and Dr. J. Yancey Fincher. Interment was in the family plot in Mariners cemetery. Bearers were Wilmer Daugherty, Harlan Scott, Grover Ward, Willie Dize, Jim Dize, and Randall Laird. Full military honors were paid him by Stanley Cochrane Post of the American Legion and Company L of the Maryland National Guard. The funeral was largely attended, and the floral offerings were many and very lovely, and attested to esteem in which he generally was held.
