Description	:	John L. Wickham was born in Liberty township, White county, Indiana, the son of Thomas H. Wickham and Jane Moore. He was a twin to his sister Sarah M. Both his parents were born in Kent county, England and later moved to Canada in 1817 and then emigrated to the U.S. in 1825. They ultimately settled in Liberty township, White county, Indiana located just north of Monticello. A marriage license was issued to John L. Wickham and Eliza Jane "Jennie" Simon on 25 Sep 1866. They were married 2 days later on 27 Sep 1866 at the White county Courthouse (copy of original license & record). Eliza was born Aug 1850 (1900 US Census) in Monticello, Indiana. They had the following children: Charles "Charley" H., b. 1868, Monticello George Albert, b. 1870, Monticello Clara Effie, b. Dec 1872, Monticello Kate Pearl, b. Jun 1876, Monticello Joseph Robison, b. 1 Sep 1888, Monticello In the 1880 US Census they were living in Union township, White county, Indiana. Monticello is in Union township. John passed away at his home in Monon, Monon township, White county, Indiana on 28 Jan 1899 after being bed-ridden for 6 months, and was buried in the Warden cemetery. His widowed wife Eliza later married Benjamin F. Hickman on 16 Feb 1907 in Monon, White, Indiana. His obituary was published in The Indianpolis News, Feb 2, 1899 and The Monticello Herald same date: Death of John L. Wickham. Mr. John L. Wickham, Whose critical condition was noted in these columns not long ago, breathed his last on Saturday, the 28th ult at his home in Monon. He had been ailing for over a year and had been confined to his bed about six months most of this time entirely helpless. Mr. Wickham was one of the native born citizens of White county, being a son of Thomas and Jane Wickham, who were among the earliest settlers of Liberty township. He was born Dec. 22, 1846, and was therefore aged 52 years, 1 month and 6 days at his death. He was married in 1866 to Miss Eliza J. Simons, who now survives him. To them were born five children, all of whom are now living --Charles Wickham of Stronghurst, Illinois, George A. of this place, Joseph, a boy of ten years still at home, Mrs. Cary Lucy of Liberty township and Mrs. Effie Jamison of Alabama. He also leaves a brother, Azariah Wickham in Nebraska, and a sister, Mrs. Kate Johnson in Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. Wickhams's life was devoted to farming. For eleven years he lived a few miles south of town, moving three years ago to Monon, near which place he operated a farm until overtaken by his last sickness. He was an upright citizen, and his life was without reproach. He had been a member of the Knights of Pythias for many years and was buried under the auspices of that order. His funeral took place Sunday, the service being conducted in the Baptist church at Sitka by Rev. J. B. Morgan. He remains were laid to rest in the Warden cemetery. Bio written by Rich Ware.
