He is survived by three sons, Elmer Knight of Kearney, Oscar Knight of West Covina, California, and Oliver Knight of El Tigre, Venezuela; a daughter, Mrs. Joe Karel of Billings, Montana; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Hall of Allerton, Iowa, and Mrs. Belle Simons of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers, James Knight of Burbank, California, and Allie Knight of Atchison, Kansas; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Johnson Mortuary, with the Reverend Harvey J. Schroeder, pastor of the Faith EUB Church, officiating. KNIGHT John L. Knight, son of James and Adeline Knight, was born in Jefferson County, Kansas, July 19, 1874 [sic -- World War I Draft Card says July 18, 1874], and was taken from this life August 30, 1955, in Kearney, Nebraska, at the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 11 days. He had been in failing health several years and hospitalized the last 3 weeks. He was united in marriage to Mary Pearl Sutton on May 20, 1908, near Inavale. They lived on various farms in that vicinity for many years. In December of 1925 they moved to Riverdale. His wife went to her Eternal home on December 27, 1928. Mr. Knight then continued to care for the children in the home and provided for them through their high school training. One son, Marvin, was taken from this life July 2, 1944, having been killed in combat in World War II while serving in the Marines. Mr. Knight expressed his faith in God by uniting with the United Brethren Church near Salem, Kansas, about 1920. Because of failing health, he was not active in the church in recent years. He is survived by three sons, Elmer Knight of Kearney, Oscar Knight of West Covina, California, and Oliver Knight of El Tigre, Venezuela; a daughter, Mrs. Joe Karel of Billings, Montana; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Hall of Allerton, Iowa, and Mrs. Belle Simons of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers, James Knight of Burbank, California, and Allie Knight of Atchison, Kansas; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
