Read More	Obit provided by contributor Marvin Bowman: (Dec. 27) ALLIANCE-John "Jack" Loren Hunter, 76, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Crossroads Assisted Living. He was born Nov. 23, 1946, at Hemingford, to Robert Leroy Hunter and Zillah Grace (Stewart) Hunter. He lived in the Panhandle area all his life. He attended the country school near the home ranch in Dawes County and seventh and eighth grade at Hemingford. He attended Alliance High School for three years and graduated high from Curtis High School in 1944. He joined the Navy after high school where he served as a Gunner's Mate during World War II. He married Joan Merle Scheer on June 15, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, at Alliance. Two children where born to this union, Daniel Lynn and Deborah Ann. He was engaged in ranching and farming until 1960 when he was involved in the purchase of the Alliance Livestock Auction Company. He sold the sale barn in 1970 and returned to the ranch where the family became involved in cattle feeding and order-buying. Through his grandchildren he became actively involved in the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association. He served as Vice-President from 1983 and 1984. Many summers found the family and their horses attending Little Britches Rodeos. His fondest memories were of the Finals Rodeos in Colorado Springs. He was a member of the American Legion and the Hemingford United Methodist Church. He is survived by his daughter Deborah Ann of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Troy and Amy Hunter, Travis and Michelle Hunter of Alliance; Scott and Julie Fegler of Lymon, Tim and Carleen Uher of Wilber; great-grandchildren Wyatt, Tristan and Karsen Hunter of Alliance, Jamie and Hunter Fegler of Lymon, and Chase and Sonya Uher of Wilber. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Householder of Alliance; many beloved nieces and nephews; and dearest friend, Janet Bowhay. He was proceeded in death by four brothers, his son Dan, and wife Joan. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford, with Rev. Craig Collins officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Hemingford Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Hemingford United Methodist Church, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
