Description	:	John M. Haux grew up on a farm near Java and made a career of farming. It was work he enjoyed. Still, he found time to serve as an usher and deacon at his church, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Java, where he was a lifelong member. He was a member of the Java Community Club, which formerly owned the Java Café and the Java Super-Valu Grocery Store. John also enjoyed watching baseball and basketball on television. He died Monday, March 19, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby, where he had been a resident since November 2004. He died at age 99, only a few months from his 100th birthday. He was born Aug. 16, 1907, to Margaretha (Mauch) and Jacob Haux, on their farm northwest of Java in Walworth County. He attended the 16 Highland District Rural School through the seventh grade and attended eighth grade at the Eureka Lutheran Academy. He then went to work on his parents' farm. He married Emily Wolff at the Lutheran parsonage in Java on Nov. 28, 1933, and they settled on their farm 5 3/4 miles northwest of Java. His wife died Aug. 24, 2000, but he remained on the farm until entering the Good Samaritan Center in Selby. One son, Larry J. Haux of Selby, and one sister, Minnie Beitelspacher of Bowdle, survive him. His parents; four brothers, Jake, Dave, Otto and Albert "Red"; and two sisters, Lydia Schnaible and Irene Haux, preceded John in death. The funeral service for John was Thursday, March 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java with Pastor Susan Carr officiating. Casketbearers were Chuck Birkholt, John VonWald, Marvin Kindel and Dave Witlock, all of Selby, Earl Frank of Java and LeRoy Beitelspacher of Bowdle. Burial followed in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery at Java with the Lien Funeral Home of Bowdle in charge of arrangements.
