Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 29, with a short service at the home followed by services from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Java with the Reverend L A Westenberger officiating. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery. Jacob Haux was born October 04, 1874, in Korscharka, South Russia, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Pastor Birnbaum. At the age of 21 years he came to America with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Haux Sr., and they homesteaded on the place where the Jacob Haux family still resides near the overhead railroad bridge, a short distance northwest of Java. On October 30, 1906, he was united in marriage with Margaret Mauch and to this union five sons and three daughters were born. One son, Jacob M., passed away about two years ago in California, and a daughter, Irene, passed away a few years before that. A hard worker, he had always been a sturdy man until recent years. Last Christmas he became suddenly ill with what was first thought to be rheumatism and was hospitalized for a time at Mobridge. He returned home and his condition grew gradually worse until June 19 when he was again taken to the hospital where he was confined for 40 days. With treatment apparently being of no avail, he returned home and remained under the faithful and loving care of his wife until the end. On the morning of September 24 he said to his family "One more day of suffering and I shall be released." The next evening at 9:15 his premonition came true and he passed quietly away. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran church and a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife; four sons, John M., Dave and Albert of Java and vicinity, and Otto of Aberdeen; two daughters, Lydia (Berthold) Schnaible of Java, and Minnie (Erhart) Beitelspacher of southeast of Java; and two sisters, Mrs. Ferdinand Beitelspacher and Mrs. Gottlieb Bamesberger of Lowry; and seven grandchildren.
