John was born on June 4, 1925 in Plymouth, Pennsylvania. He had lived in South Bend for 60 years, coming from Buchanan, Michigan. John had been employed with Bendix, G.E. Electric, and for 27 years at Wheelabrator Frye as the Chief Welding Engineer. On November 4, 1950, at the University of Notre Dame, he married Lillian M. Letcher, who preceded him in death on December 17, 2007. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Pajka and Joannie Marino. Survivors include his daughter, Anita E. (John) Manuszak of South Bend, Indiana; two sons, James Vaselin of South Bend, Indiana and John M. (Roberta) Vaselin of Buffalo, Wyoming; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Manuszak, Katie (Henrique) Romero, Jonathon Manuszak, Josie (Matt) Fagerland, Bridger (Veronica) Vaselin, Laura Vaselin, Colter Vaselin, and Johnny Vaselin; three great-grandchildren, CaLeah Fagerland, Harper Fagerland, and Nikolai Vaselin; and two sisters, Elaine Kollar of New Jersey and Eleanor Hogan of Plymouth, Pennsylvania. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2015 in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, Michigan. A visitation will take place from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. John was a 1949 graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he received a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering and B.S. in Naval Science. He was W.W. II Navy Veteran where he served as a Ensign. John was a member of Christ the King Parish and the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed watching the "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy". He also enjoyed playing slot machines. John was a Notre Dame fan. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Christ the King Catholic Church of the Izaak Walton League.
