Death is thought to have resulted from some kind of internal rupture or apoplectic stroke, caused by a jar which Mr. Dorsey received when he jumped from a moving train at Corfu late yesterday afternoon. Mr. Dorsey had spent all day yesterday with Superintendent Mott Sawyer, of Spokane, on an inspection trip over the road from Cle Elum to Othello. Mr. Sawyer's car was attached to a freight train eastbound and as they reached Corfu about 6 o'clock Mr. Dorsey jumped off to catch another freight back to Ellensburg. The train from which he jumped was not moving rapidly and he did not fall but as he got on the home-going freight he complained of a severe pain in his leg and as the train passed through Smyrna he was taken with a fainting spell. The train crew revived him and put hot applications to his leg. These relieved the pain somewhat, but just past Boylston he was seized with another fainting spell, the pain spread upward, and when close to Kittitas he died. At Kittitas, the freight caboose, under the direction of Conductor W. A. Collinge, was hooked up to a special engine and brought on to Ellensburg. Dr. W. A. Taylor met the train at Ellensburg and after examining the body stated that death must have resulted from an internal rupture caused by the shock sustained as Mr. Dorsey jumped from the moving freight. Besides his widow, Mr. Dorsey leaves nine children, ranging in age from John Joseph Dorsey, 23 years old and now in the marine aviation service at Allejo, Cal., to Patrick James, a baby of seven months. The other children are Robert, Helen, Paul, Frederick, Esther, Florence and Rosetta. Mr. Dorsey's parents live in St. Louis, Mo., and there are five brothers in the east. Mr. Dorsey was a Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Modern Woodmen lodges. Funeral arrangements await word from the relatives in the east and the son in California.
