Lower Grimm officiating. ================ Chester Herald (Chester, NE), Thursday, June 26, 1947 John Martin Smarsh, son of Vincent and Elizabeth Smarsh, was born in Mechanicsburg, Pa., March 25, 1869, and left this early pilgrimage at his home in Chester, June 21, 1947. He was united in marriage to Sarah Duey of Painfield (sic), Pa., in February, 1891. He united with the United Brethren Church of Newburg, Pa., in 1892, and after coming to Chester, Nebraska, in 1915, he united with the Methodist Church of which he was a loyal member until called to the Church triumphant. W.C. Fawell in charge. Burial in the Chester Cemetery. ==== The Belleville Telescope (Belleville, KS), Thursday, June 26, 1947; pg. 5 DIES SUDDENLY AT HOME (By The Telescope's Chester Corr.) John M. Smarsh, 78, passed away at his home in Chester Saturday, June 21. Death came suddenly while Mr. Smarsh was eating dinner. He is survived by his wife, Sarah, one sister in Carlisle, Penn., and many other relatives. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Chester Methodist church (sic) with the Rev. W.C. Fawell in charge. Interment was in Chester cemetery (sic).
