The occasion was the marriage of his daughter, Miss Sarah E Duey, and Mr. J M Smarsh, of Mechanicsburg. The ceremony was performed at 11 a m, the officiating clergyman being Rev J Lower Grimm, of Newville. The wedding took place in the presence of the immediate friends of the contracting parties and invited guests. A reception succeeded the ceremony and an elegant repast was served, after which the happy couple took the 5 45 p.m. train for Mechanicsburg, where a reception was given by the parents of the groom. The bride was the recipient of many handsome and useful presents. ====== The Shippensburg Chronicle (Shippensburg, PA), Thursday, February 12, 1891; pg. 3 Cumberland County Items. Mr. J.M. Smarsh, of Mechanicsburg, and Miss Sarah Duey, of Greason were married last Thursday, at the residence of the bride, Rev. J. Lower Grimm officiating. ================ The Belleville Telescope (Belleville, KS), Thursday, August 8, 1957; pg. 5 Sarah Ellen Duey, daughter of William and Elizabeth Duey, was born Nov. 18, 1869 at Carlisle Springs, Penn., the youngest of thirteen children, all of whom have preceded her in death. She passed away July 27, 1957 at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 9 days. She was married to John Martin Smarsh at Plainfield, Penn., on Feb. 5, 1891. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Feb. 5, 1941. Mr. Smarsh passed away June 21, 1947. In 1915 they moved to Chester, transferring their church membership to the Chester Methodist Church. "Aunt Sally" as she was known to all, was present of the Ladies Aid for 10 years. Because of failing health and eyesight she spent the last five or six years in the homes of her nieces and nephews, a short time in the blue Valley Home in Hebron and the last year and one month at the Annabelle Anderson Home in Hebron where she passed away. One sister-in-law survives, Mrs. Dorothy Duey in Pennsylvania. Aunt Sally had no children of her own but will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Chester Methodist Church Tuesday, July 30, Rev. Norman Smitheram in charge. Mrs. Harold Porter and Mrs. Lawrence Eickman sang a duet, accompanied by Mrs. Robert Weary. Casket bearers were Raymond Duey, Kenneth Messman, Grant Duey, Eugene Nesmith, Don Duey and Harmon Gilkeson. Interment was made in the Chester cemetery (sic). "Servant of God, well done, Rest from they loved employ; The battle fought, the victory won, Enter they Master's joy. The pains of death are passed, Labor and sorrow cease. And lifes long warfare closed at last They soul is found in peace."
